Join us for the cheapest way to learn to fly in the Navy. The Club meets at around 1000 every Saturday and Sunday to fly weather permitting; Even if there is no flying we usually get together on Saturday mornings as there are always things to do in the hangar.

We muster at the Gliding Clubhouse in building D44, on the road that leads to the Tower and opposite D3 and D4 hangars.

We have an excellent fleet of aircraft with 2 dual seat for training and a single seat for the more advanced pilots. We have a Super DIMONA motor glider which provides aero tows, advanced gliding training, field landing checks and cross country flying.

The cost of Membership is very low for Service personnel, at only £5 for the first year and charges for flying very reasonable, from £6 per wire launch or £24 per aero tow to 2000 feet. The Club is also open to MoD civilians and long term contractors.

There are grants and bursaries available for enthusiastic service personnel who also benefit from a cheap first flight, subsidised from Adventurous Training funds so will only cost you £5 which includes your first year’s membership. Why not speak to your Sports Rep about organising a Friday Night taster session for your Squadron/Section during the summer term (see CTMs for details).

The Sports Centre has copies of the fixture list. Of particular interest for the beginner, the Royal Naval Gliding and Soaring Association organises a sponsored Gliding Development Week at the Portsmouth Naval Gliding Club. The flying is again subsidised by Adventure Training Funds, with only a small personal contribution required, and as with all Adventure Training, Service Personnel are eligible for the time off as duty and can claim travel costs. It is an ideal opportunity for someone just learning to make rapid progress, it is entirely possible to achieve solo status in a week given the right aptitude and good weather !

For anyone stuck at Culdrose during the weekends, the Seahawk Gliding Club offers a great pastime and enjoyable social environment. For further details contact the Secretary:
